Meet the Team

Sonya Worthy Okolo

Founder & PT Ortho & Pelvic Health Specialist

Sonya Worthy Okolo, PT is a native of Asheville, NC.  As a graduate of University of Maryland Baltimore, she has over 25 years of experience and loves what she does!   After her own (O.A.S.I.S.) birth trauma, an interest was sparked in pelvic floor therapy and maternal health care. She dreamed of better for herself and others…a place of ease, prevention, and recovery.

Sonya has a multi-system skill set that includes functional & sports-specific training, advanced manual therapy including Visceral Mobilization, Myofascial Release, and Instrument-assisted Soft Tissue & Joint Mobilization.  With extensive postgraduate pelvic training from The Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute and coursework from some of the greatest leaders in the field, she began exclusively specializing in pelvic health in 2016.  Also, as a trained Birth Doula, a spectrum of care is available from pre-conception, pregnancy, postpartum & beyond.

Using a holistic model, Sonya is intuitively lead as she applies evidence-based care to address the “drivers” of symptoms.  She is a strong believer in mind-body connection and supports an integrative approach to healthcare and multi-disciplinary collaboration.  Born out of personal experience, Oasis offers a safe, nurturing environment with a whole-body focus from a trauma informed perspective.

She has earned her Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Health (CAPP-Pelvic) and Obstetric (CAPP-OB) Physical Therapy from the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Pelvic Health in 2019 and 2024, respectively. She continues to develop her expertise through continuing education courses with a special interest in obstetrics and visceral mobilization through the Barral Institute.

Outside of work, Michelle enjoys belly dancing and performing with a local company, resistance training, traveling with her husband, and spending time with her pets. A Maryland local for over 20 years, she is enthusiastic about empowering her community.

Denise Harris,
Office Manager

Denise earned her master’s degree in Speech & Language Pathology. She took a break from that field to raise her children while growing a direct selling business. Using her clinical background, Denise began working administratively in Pelvic Floor PT over 10 years ago.   She is thrilled to be playing a supporting role here at OASIS.

When Denise isn’t working, she spends much of her time following her passion of animal rescue & welfare. As co-founder of the nonprofit Lost Animal Resource Group, she helps reunite lost pets with their families. Her other passions include her family (human and furry), travel, music, gardening, and Orioles baseball.

Cynthia Whitfield

Patient Care Coordinator

Cynthia is a MBA graduate from the University of Atlanta Business School with a major in accounting. After several years as a financial analyst at a few Forbes top 100 companies, Cynthia changed her career path to sales. After a successful career with high accolades in Pharmaceutical Sales, she is excited to be a part of the Oasis team as she continues to support health and wellness for all.

Developing a rapport with each patient is important to Cynthia. Out of her own health challenges, she exhibits sensitivity and empathy when addressing patient concerns. In her free time, Cynthia enjoys being a certified makeup artist and spending time with family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a concierge & wellness service?

“Concierge PT” goes beyond the traditional insurance-based model. We provide care until your goals are met – not dictated by your insurance company. You have unlimited access – we value quality NOT quantity! You have the ability to quickly reach providers with questions and receive timely responses via text or email options. PT services typically are 55 to 75 minutes, 1:1 care, and individualized with advanced skill intervention allowing for more efficient results. Select mobile service is available.

Do I need a referral from my physician?
Maryland is a direct access state, so no physician referral is needed. You can choose PT first! After evaluation, if it is determined that we are not the right provider, then you will be directed appropriately.
How many PT sessions do I need?
Using the Oasis 3R method, most patients notice improvements in a few visits. Each person and lifestyle is different and will require a uniquely designed treatment plan. Of course, your commitment to rehabilitation is key! After your initial evaluation, we will discuss your treatment plan, taking into consideration your situation and availability, to set you up to live without the same symptoms again.
What birth support services are offered?
The birthing person can receive a single comprehensive “push prep” session with pelvic floor screen or complete package of prenatal education, labor & birth prep, and Pelvic PT sessions. Guidance and education is available for pregnancy wellbeing, pain prevention & mitigation. Instruction is provided on labor prep comfort measures and pelvic floor-safe pushing techniques given your unique needs. Special care is available for medical conditions and trauma experiences.
Have a question not covered here?
If you’ve got a question not answered by the above Common Questions about Pelvic Health, please contact us! We’ll be happy to chat more.
What should I expect at the first PT session?
At the first visit, your medical history, lifestyle, goals, and symptoms will be reviewed. A comprehensive musculoskeletal exam will be performed to determine underlying causes. This typically involves an external movement screen and if indicated, per your consent and comfort, an internal pelvic floor exam. Upon completion, together, a plan of care will be developed based on the nature of your condition and personal goals.

Are you a provider for my health insurance?

We are NOT Medicare providers. All services are covered by out-of-network insurance. As a fee-for-service physical therapy company, payment is due at time of service using HSA, FSA, or Credit/Debit Cards. A superbill will be provided for your self-submission of reimbursement.
